WHAT IS BIT TORRENT?
BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing communication protocol. BitTorrent is a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the entire costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources. Instead, when data is distributed using the BitTorrent protocol, each recipient supplies pieces of the data to newer recipients, reducing the cost and burden on any given individual source, reducing dependence on the original distributor.
A BitTorrent client is a program that downloads files using the BitTorrent protocol.
I suggest you use µTorrent (my favorite) as client.
µTorrent is a freeware, closed source, BitTorrent client for Microsoft Windows. It is designed to use minimal computer resources while offering functionality comparable to larger BitTorrent clients such as Azureus or BitComet.
 DOWNLOAD µTORRENT NOW (version 1.7.7)
Once you have downloaded µTorrent, double click on the file, it will launch/install µTorrent. Before start downloading anything you can mess up with some options (in Options/Preferences).

Few things you might wanna change:
In Gereral > Language, minimize/close to tray, show speed, start µtorrent on startup.
In Downloads > Change download folder, append !ut to incomplete (so you see directly which files are done downloading in your folder) & pre-allocate files (prevents for lacking of disk space during a download).
In Queuing > Increase number of active torrents (if you download a lot).
In Advanced > UI > Open folder on double click
Ready to start downloading games?
Well just head to BT.DAVKA, the most famous site for NBA game downloads. This is were I get many of the games I upload then on my bballvideos. Click on the game links you like and it will download a small .torrent file which will launch µtorrent and start the download of your game (Windows might ask you to associate µtorrent with this file format, choose to always perform this action).
Speed might vary depending on the number of Seeders (people who have 100% of the file and share it) and Peers or Leechers (people who are still downloading the file). Logically you should get a better speed with 10 seeds/2 peers than with 1 seed/20 peers.

Once your download has reached 100% you can play your file located in the Download folder you chose in the options tab.
Other famous (general) torrent sites include Mininova, Piratebay, IsoHunt... You can access them easily from the search option on the top right hand of µtorrent.
A less famous, still very convenient torrent site I use for non-bball needs is Scrapetorrent.com which allows to display result from different torrent sites in one research ;)
